Mocky delivers a stellar composition from his upcoming Japanese rarities collection: „When You Laugh“ is a futuristic bossa nova with elements of tropicalia and psychedelic funk, and a delicate chanson-inspired vocal drifting seductively on top.
Based on a poem written by his father Roy Salole - and with a guest turn from L.A.‘s best-kept secret chanteuse Hilary Gay - Mocky dove back into the studio with the song and remixed and mastered it as the first single of „Amaimono“ (“Sweet Things” in Japanese), his upcoming Japanese b-sides, exclusives, and rarities collection.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
